Mr. Jerry Lee Hancock of Albany, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center in Cookeville, Tennessee, having attained the age of 74 years, 10 months, and 29 days. He was born in Monticello, Kentucky on Thursday, September 7, 1950, the son of William Oscar Hancock & Lillie (Pyles) Hancock Stinson. Jerry proudly served in the United States Army, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal in recognition of his honorable service. A man of strong faith, he was of the non-denominational belief and a devoted member of the Freedom Masonic Lodge #643 F&AM for over 40 years. Jerry had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing whenever he could. For many years, he worked in construction as a skilled heavy machine operator. He was never one to sit still, always staying busy around the house, and was known as a true jack of all trades. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Opal (Stearns) Hancock, whom he wed on Thursday, November 8, 1973, children, Carolyn (& Scottie) Glidewell, Jerry Dewayne “Bud” Hancock, all of Albany, Kentucky, sisters, Ann Hicks of Bronston Kentucky, Sue (& Donald) Thompson of Monticello, Kentucky, and Elaine Hicks of Albany, Kentucky, brothers, Tommy (& Brenda) Stinson of Pall Mall, Tennessee, Donnie (& Debra) Stinson of Somerset, Kentucky, Bobby (& Ginger) Stinson of Monticello, Kentucky, brother-in-law, Jackie Stearns of Albany Kentucky, several nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
The funeral service was conducted on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. C.S.T. in The Memory Chapel of the Campbell-New Funeral Home with Bro. Larry Brown, and Bro. Johnny Davis officiating. Military Honors were provided by the D.A.V. Chapter #105 at the funeral home and cemetery. Burial was in The Cave Springs Cemetery in Clinton County, Kentucky. Casket bearers were Ned Sloan, Joe Summers, Jack Stearns, Steven Thompson, Tom Stinson, Benny Brown, Darrell Winningham, and Mark Bell.
