Mr. James Edward Guffey Sr., of Alpha, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at the Lake Cumberland Regional Medical Center, in Somerset, Kentucky, having attained the age of 74 years, 2 months, and 14 days. He was born in Albany, Kentucky on Saturday, September 16, 1950, the son of Fred C. & Rosie (Ferrill) Guffey. He was of the Christian faith, and proudly served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1969-1971. James worked as a self-employed carpenter & electrician for many years, and loved fishing, traveling, gardening, raising his chickens, studying the bible, die cast cars, and collecting shot glasses. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Gene F. Guffey Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Saundra (Cummings) Guffey, whom he wed on Saturday, March 25, 1972, children, James Guffey Jr. (& Crystal) of Gainesboro, Tennessee, Mckenzie (& Christina) Guffey of Clarkesville, Tennessee, Jelina Guffey (& Tim Shelton) of Albany, Kentucky, Sara (& Morgan) Robbins of Livingston, Tennessee, brothers, Jack (& Sue) Guffey of Albany, Kentucky, Billy (& Julie) Guffey of New Castle, Indiana, and Ronnie ‘Buffy” (& Belinda) Guffey of Somerset, Kentucky, grandchildren, Russell, Cheyenne, Olivia, Zachary, Ethan, McKensey, Alex, Wid, Ty, Tatyana, and Tuff, great-grandchildren, Baylee, Asher, Magdalene “Mater”, and Kylan, and other family and friends.

The funeral service was conducted on Sunday, December 1, 2024, beginning at 2 P.M. C.S.T. in the Memory Chapel of the Campbell-New Funeral Home, with Bro. Greg Wells officiating. Burial was in the Highway Cemetery in Clinton County, Kentucky. Casket Bearers were McKenzie Guffey, James Guffey Jr., Russell Guffey, Ty Robbins, Morgan Robbins, Tim Shelton, Alex Norrie, Wid Robbins, Tuff Robbins, and Dewey Copeland.
