Glenn Crabtree Obituary

Mr. Glenn Edward Crabtree of Albany, Kentucky passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026, at the Cumberland County Hospital in Burkesville, Kentucky, having attained the age of 82 years, 8 months, and 7 days. He was born in Allen County, Kentucky on July 30, 1943, the son of Fonnis & Mary Lucienda (Day) Crabtree. Glenn was of the Christian faith and faithfully attended the Highway Church of the Nazarene in Albany, Kentucky. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, dedicating over sixteen years to military service, including time as a respected drill instructor. Following his military career, he continued his life of service as a correctional officer with the Arizona Department of Corrections, where he earned the reputation of being “tough but fair” among the inmates. Glenn was known as an honest and dependable man who carried himself with integrity in all areas of life. During his time in Oracle, Arizona, he played a role in building a church within a historic building that once served as a hotel, known for hosting figures such as Doc Holliday and Wyatt Earp. He later worked for many years with the Clinton County Jail, continuing his commitment to public service. Outside of his work, Glenn had a passion for bringing people together, starting a neighborhood yard football and softball league that created lasting memories for many. Above all, he will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and love. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Derald Crabtree, James Donald Crabtree, Douglas Crabtree, grandson, Steven Michael Tyler, and step-daughter, Brenda Tyler.

He is survived by his wife, Bonita A. (Waltermire) Crabtree, whom he wed on October 30, 1981; children, Matthew (& Bobbi Marie) Tyler, Angela (& Lester) Thompson, both of Albany, Kentucky, Lisa (& Charles) Gilbert of Port Gibson, Mississippi, Renee (& Steven) Omstead of Oracle, Arizona; siblings, Anntoy Scott of Albany Kentucky, Billy F. Crabtree; grandchildren, Gunner, Leslee, Thomas, Hannah, Victoria, Rebekah, Melanie, and 13 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at a later date, both in Albany and Arizona, for all who knew him.
