Mr. Freddy Gayle Matthews of Albany, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at The Medical Center in Albany, Kentucky, having attained the age of 82 years, 4 months, and 5 days. Sundays were reserved for City Mart, where he shared coffee and conversation with friends, he told Jingles when she left, she ruined Sundays. He had a special fondness for Sandy’s cooking. He enjoyed listening to The Eagles and Bob Seger, watching westerns, and, most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren never missing a chance to brag about them and how good-looking they all were. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his siblings, Dora Lee Butler and Charlie Wayne Matthews; grandson, Trevyn Matthews; father and mother-in-law, Porter and Elise Gray; niece, Kathy Lowe; brother in-laws, Billy Butler, Charlie Cyphers, Richard Lewis, Ernest Cash, Kenny Gray, Ricky Gray, Rondal Lloyd and Bud Polston; sister in-law, Sue Matthews; nephews, Tim Gray and Ronnie Gray.

He is survived by his wife, Geneva (Gray) Matthews, whom he wed on Saturday, May 2, 1981; children, Mike (& Christy) Matthews, Shane (& Sandy) Matthews, all of Albany, Kentucky; siblings, Marian Cyphers of Burkesville, Kentucky, Dimple Cash of Albany, Kentucky, and Donna Lewis of Bowling Green, Kentucky; grandchildren, Haley (& Jordan) Matthews, Nate Matthews, Cameron Matthews, Nicholas Matthews, Aleigha Matthews and Oakley Matthews; great-grandchild, Boone Matthews; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law; Don (& Dean) Gray, Mary (& Paul) Harris, Betty Lloyd, Barbara Polston, Wanda Jones, Lois Gray and Bill (& Vanessa) Gray, several special nieces, nephews, family and many friends.
