Evie Nell (Witham) Brown Obituary

Mrs. Evie Nell Brown

The Lord gives, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. Job 1:21

When the Lord gave us Evie Nell Brown as a mother, He poured out a double portion of love and grace upon us all. Mom was born Evie Nell Witham on March 29, 1937 in Albany, Kentucky to the late Elizabeth and Ed Witham. She married James Wayne Brown on June 23rd, 1961 at Dicken Chapel in Albany. Evie and Wayne moved to New Castle, Indiana where they were members of Whittier Lane Baptist Church. There they raised their five children: Gary Brown (wife Lori) of Greenfield, Indiana; Mark Brown of Albany, Lorrecia Legg (husband Tony) of Dallas, Georgia; Dena Goddard (husband Michael) of McKinney, Texas; and Donna Hamblin of McKinney, Texas. Mother was also blessed with six grandchildren and four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mom’s faith became sight when she met Jesus just before 3:00 p.m. on July 5th. She was surrounded by her 5 children as we held her hand, sang over her and expressed our love and admiration for the amazing mother she was. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wayne Brown; her twin sister, Regina Bell Lewis; and brothers Gerald David, Edgar and Welby Witham. Mother is survived by her sister, Linda Owens of Somerset KY, and brother Jay Witham of New Castle, Indiana.

Mom will be remembered as an amazing caregiver. Her caregiving began at the young age of 13 when her mother passed away as she cared for her father and siblings.  She beautifully cared for her own family as it grew from one to five children. From there she began a career in providing care for the elderly by sitting with and assisting seniors in their home. She then continued her caretaking role for our father throughout his battle with lung disease.

Mom enjoyed cooking, canning, cross-stitch and hosting guests. During her later years, canning and cross-stich was replaced with word-search books and the nightly Wheel of Fortune game show. She will be remembered for her bedtime stories, recipe swapping, Sunday family dinners, long phone calls, warm hugs and her sincere smile. As a proud member of the “Mother’s of Twin’s Club” she loved mentioning that she herself had a twin sister. Mom never met a stranger and would always strike up a conversation with anyone around her. She was our friend, mentor and listening ear. She was far more than a mom - she was our mother.

The funeral service was conducted on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at 12:00 Noon,  C.S.T. in the Memory Chapel of Campbell-New Funeral Home with her Nephew Bro. Greg Wells officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Hill Cemetery in Albany, Kentucky. Casket Bearers were Casey Brown, Brock Goddard, Parker Hamblin, Bryce Legg, Ricky Brown and Wayne Brown.

Campbell-New Funeral Home of Albany, Kentucky was honored to be in charge of all the arrangements.
