Mrs. Claire Anne Hamrick Crawford, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 16, 2022, after an extended illness. Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry, Georgia, and the Funeral will be immediately following at 2:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, October 24, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. in Caney Branch Cemetery, Highway KY-639, Albany, Kentucky, where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband and family. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to Heart of Georgia Hospice 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088, or Berea College, 101 Chestnut Street, Berea, Kentucky 40403.

Anne was born in Cherokee County, South Carolina, to the late James Hatcher Hamrick, Sr., and the late Johnnie Greene Hamrick. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Berea College in Kentucky, and later completed her Master’s Degree in Education at Fort Valley State University. Anne lived in Middle Georgia for over forty years and taught with the Houston County, Georgia, school system, from where she retired. She loved butterflies and enjoyed word search puzzles. Anne collected Fenton glassware and was always delighted to find a new piece, especially at a bargain price. She was a long-time member of Rehoboth Baptist Church and always enjoyed teaching Sunday School. Anne was a very thoughtful lady with a giving heart. She was known for sending greeting cards to others for various occasions and particularly for doing things for other people.

Anne was preceded in death by her parents; her loving and devoted husband of forty-eight years, Joe Franklin Crawford; her brother, John Mark Hamrick; and her sisters-in-law, Roberta Wilson and Geneta Butler; and her mother-in-law, Lena Crawford.

Left to cherish the memories they made with Anne are her daughter and son-in-law, Saleha and Nick Wowaka of Perry, GA; her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Kristin Crawford of Davenport, Iowa; her bonus son-in-law and daughter-in-law, David Svoboda and Tena Padgett of Perry; her brother, Jim Hamrick (Joyce) of Kathleen, GA; her sister, Jama Wilson of Chester, Virginia; her grandchildren, Amanda Svoboda, Taylor Svoboda (Julia Benson), and Sarah Svoboda (Nate Hughes), Elizabeth Wowaka, Tamara Wowaka, Jack Crawford, Sophie Crawford, and Henry Crawford; her bonus grandchildren, Shaylee Smith and Matty Padgett; her great-grandchildren, Ethan Picanso and Stella Grace Svoboda; along with a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and her special caregivers/friends, Shameka McGhee and Gloria Curgil. Family is not always defined by blood, but those who adopt us into their hearts and lives are family, too.

Local survivors include her nieces Melissa Smith, Linda Murphy, and Shelia Ann Marcum, her nephew, Anthony Wilson. Local casket bearers were Johnny Shelley, Nathan Shelley, Danny Terry, Bro. David Stearns, Bro. Greg Wells, and Dennis P. McWhorter.
Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Campbell-New Funeral Home was honored to be in charge of local arrangements.
