Mrs. Barbara Jean (Garner) Sawyers of Albany, Kentucky, passed away at her home in Albany, Kentucky on Sunday, May 19, 2024 having attained the age of 87 years, 8 month, and 9 days. She was born in the Irish Bottom community of Cumberland County Kentucky, on Thursday, September 10, 1936, the daughter of C.L. "Clete" & Vicie (Smith) Garner. She was of the Baptist faith, attended the Lands Chapel Methodist Church, and Green Grove Baptist Church. She worked as a farmer, homemaker, an assistant librarian, and for sewing factories. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Sawyers, whom she wed on August 12, 1955, whom passed on March 27, 2023, and daughter, Linda Ray.

        She is survived by her daughter, Brenda (& Delmer) Vitatoe, grandchildren, Clint (& Allison) Ray, Lindsey (& Seth) Stonecipher, Stuart (& Laura) Vitatoe, great-grandchildren, Noah Stonecipher, Cain Ray, Alexander Ray, Aelin Ray. Walker Vitatoe, Lucas Vitatoe, sister, Sue Garner (& Ken) Riddle, nieces, Debra (& Eddie) Lee, and Dana Duvall, all of Albany, Kentucky.

        The funeral service was conducted on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. C.S.T. in the Memory Chapel of Campbell-New Funeral Home, with Bro. Joe Summers & Bro. Mike Huffaker officiating. Casket bearers were Jimmy Sawyers, Kurtis Lee, Clint Ray, Daylan Duvall, Seth Stonecipher, Dawson Duvall, Kenny Lee, Deacon Duvall, Joe Ray, stuart Vitatoe, and honorary casket bearer Larry Sensing. Burial was in the Memorial Hill Cemetery in Albany, Kentucky.  In lieu of flowers contribution appreciated to the St. Jude Children Hospital, or The Hope Lodge.

        Campbell-New Funeral Home in Albany was honored to be in charge of the arrangements.
